Multiphoton Jaynes-Cummings Model: Arbitrary Rotations in Fock Space and Quantum Filters

Abstract : Abstract:In this talk I would like to discuss the multi-photon (or nonlinear) Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model and its applications in quantum information science. Considering the strong atom-mode coupling regime and choosing the nonlinearity N of the JC Hamiltonian, a nonlinear driving field (which injects M photons simultaneously) can execute an arbitrary rotation in Fock space of a bosonic mode involving vacuum and an M-photon state. For instance, with the two-photon JC and a usual coherent driving field we show how to perform arbitrary rotations involving 0 and 1 photon states only. Still in the strong coupling regime, driving the atom-mode system with a linear coherent field (superposition of many Fock states), only the states with up to N-1 photons will populate the resonator, i.e., we have shown how to implement a Fock state filter which truncates the Hilbert space of a given bosonic mode accordingly to the nonlinearity of the JC Hamiltonian. On the other hand, weak coupling regime predicts a multi-photon induced transparency phenomenon-like, i.e., how to induce a transparency window-like for multi-photon driving fields.
