Electromagnetic control of flow and heat transfer in Liquid Metal eXperiment

Liquid metal flow behavior under magnetic field and electric current is investigated in experiment and numerical simulations. The resultant Lorentz force produced within the liquid-metal changes the flow behavior and the heat transfer characteristics of the system. The enhanced flow mixing induced by the non-uniform current density appears to be crucial for the heat transfer efficiency. Also the outflow heat flux is strongly affected by the action of the J×B force.
