For decades, the bubble chamber was the primary particle detection technique 
high-energy physics. We demonstrate how an ultra-clean, room-temperature 
chamber can be adapted as a direct dark matter detector. A chamber containing
superheated CF3I is maximally sensitive to both spin-dependent and -
Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) interactions. A high inherent
insensitivity to typical backgrounds affecting other WIMP searches has been
demonstrated in conditions leading to detection of low-energy, hence WIMP-like,
nuclear recoils. Improved limits on the spin-dependent WIMP-proton scattering
cross-section have been achieved with a 2kg chamber, excluding one 
explanation for a
recent claim of discovery. Here we also outline plans for future chambers of 
mass and better sensitivity.
